Getting Started on the Economy

Here is a revised and extended version of a paper posted here in 2009 :  Getting Started on the Economy. This represents work in progress in 2010. For a much more comprehensive body of work, see However, this paper:

  • presents the problem for the regional economy in terms of two flawed assumptions endless growth and global competitiveness;
  • suggests some alternative guiding principles;
  • suggests some ways in which we can promote them.

It can be read in conjunction with the Green Deal for the Manchester-Mersey Bioregion paper and Sustainability: Utopian and Scientific.
